On October 30, 2024, the world lost a light far too soon. Melvin “Rudy” Burks was doing what he loved most—grilling for friends, sharing laughter, and lifting others up—when tragedy struck. A stray bullet ended his life at 6:50 p.m., but it could never end his spirit of service, love, and leadership.
Rudy wasn’t just a friend or a coach; he was a builder of people. As a championship-winning football coach, he believed every young person deserved a chance to succeed—on the field and in life. His energy, generosity, and faith touched everyone he met.
In his honor, the Melvin Anthony Burks Scholarship Foundation carries that legacy forward. We provide opportunities for young people to pursue education, leadership, and community service—the same values Rudy lived every day.
